Have you recently lost a filling and had a temporary replacement fitted by the dentist? Or have you taken matters into your own hands and used Dr Denti Refit? If yes, there are several things you can do to care for your temporary tooth filling to ensure it lasts as long as possible. Given that the tooth filling is only temporary, it will come out more easily than a regular, fitted filling.

Chewing

You should avoid chewing on the side of your mouth that has the temporary tooth filling fitted. If this isn’t possible, you should be careful about what you eat. You should try and avoid any hard, crunchy foods like nuts, apples and crisps for example.

Be Gentle

Whilst you should remain brushing your teeth as you normally do, it’s important to be gentle when brushing over the temporarily-filled tooth. If you are anxious about the filling coming out, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush to calm your worries.

Flossing is an important part of everyday oral health, but it can be difficult with a temporary filling. You should be extra careful and pull the floss to the side to remove it rather than upwards. This will prevent the floss from getting stuck on the filling and pulling it out.

Don’t Leave it in

Do not continuously use a temporary filling for more than 28 days. It is important that you visit your dentist and get a permanent filling replacement in this time. A temporary filling is not designed to stay in your mouth for longer than this period of time, and thus it may be more resilient to wear or falling out.
